Despair was about to set in. I went into the lanes, and to the only sandwich bar that I knew of that I hadn't been to - Lettuce Eat. I walked straight past. Hot Spot had charm and character - this seemed just awful. Sorry - it will not feature in this blog.
Difficult decisions now had to be taken - do I give up my quest of eating from somewhere different every day for as long as possible, admitting defeat? I suddenly remembered that someone had recommended "Wrap it Up", which is next door to Tesco on Bishopsgate. I made my way towards it resolute to continue my quest, when I came across this sandwich bar on Artillery Road - part of the network of roads near the lanes.
A small sandwich bar with a couple of tables at the back. I asked for a toasted ciabatta with hot chicken bacon and cheese, and a banana. The ciabatta came out a bit dry and crumbly, and there was not enough flavour from the bacon. I had exactly the same sandwich from Bivio when I started, and that was miles better, and it was cheaper.
This is just another sandwich bar, but I don't think it compared well with Bivio, so I will not return. That said, when I was collecting my sandwich, someone asked for the "pork special". There was a joint of pork with crackling in the chiller - this conjured up thoughts of pork rolls from a hog roast in the summer......
