Stepping further afield - going the other side of Bishopsgate for the first time. Itsu has been recommended to me, and, whilst I am not a lover of sushi, I am partial to other Japanese cooking. Itsu is on the boardwalk on the edge of Broadgate, next to Jamies opposite ABN.
A number of dishes had been recommended, including the beef salad and Chicken Teriyaki Noodles. With the Teriyaki, I was dreaming of a bustling Teriyaki bar in Ginsa.....
Disappointed. I thought Teriyaki Chicken is chicken that is marinated in a teriyaki sauce, sweet and sticky, but this was simply boiled chicken, with sesame seeds, shitake mushrooms, bean shoots, carrot, green beans and big noodles in a miso soup. I was given a small bottle of sauce, which had a strong ginger flavour - someone told me that this was supposed to be the teriyaki sauce, but it did not have the sweet flavour that I expect.
That said, for £4.95, it is good value for money - lb for £, you get a lot. I will go back, but perhaps for the beef salad....
