Falafels, 26 Mar 2007

The search goes on - this time Falafels, one of the food kiosks in the market. I've now been to all of them, and will give a summary in the next post.

Not knowing what falafel was, I asked if they had any meat (regular readers will know that I am a bit of a carnivore); but, no - this is a vegetarian stall. Never mind, a falafel is a ball of spicy chickpea, deep fried. I had the Middle Eastern Mezze - three falafels, a dolmades, a number of olives, some humous and feta and a warm pitta bread; you then help yourself to salad. The salads were basic lettuces, tomato, cucumber, carrot and cous cous with coriander. A basic serving, would be a portion of falafel in pita with, say, feta and salad. My mezze cost £4.50, and there was loads. In fact, because I don't eat olives (love the oil, hate the fruit), there was some left over.

The falafels themselves were nice and spicy, and I had topped them with a chilli sauce, just to make sure! Salad was good and fresh; the humous was nice, but I thought the feta was a bit strong. Anyway, I enjoyed what I had, and I can now say I've eaten there. Good if you like it, but I don't think I will go back.
