Things are getting tough now. I've long been a fan of Carluccio's for eating in - good, simple pastas and other Italian dishes, and geared up to turn you around quickly. In the deli section, they are also selling salads, paninis and other savoury and sweet pastries.
I had a meat calzone (heated up) and a rice salad, total cost £4.75. The calzone had a smooth tomato sauce in it, and the taste was good, but I was unable to determine what meat was in it - if there was any meat in it at all! The rice salad was nice and oily, with strips of ham, a few cherry tomatoes and some halved olives. Taste was good. Will not be going for a calzone again - pehaps will try something else.
The sweet pastries looked very appetising - I know the lemon tart from the restaurant: delightfully sharp but a very smooth filling, but others appealed as well: a rhubarb tart with crumble topping, chocolate meringue (I know, not a pastry), cranberry tart, and so on.
Will go there for a meal next......
