Rainforest Stall, 2 May 2007

This is a stall in the market that is only there on Wednesdays. They are placed next to the Flying Angels, opposite Square Pie. What do they sell? Essentially they are a vegetarian salad stall - I know, I'm a carnivore at heart, but I have been known......

I've been persuaded by the persistence of my two colleagues who go there every week. Anyway, I went for the Rainforest Box for £5, which included a slice of the Caribbean flan. First impressions were favourable: the box felt quite heavy when taking it out of the bag, so I felt that I was getting value for money in terms of bulk! The flan actually looked just like solid salad, rather than a flan in the true sense; it contained plantain, sweet potato and a number of other bits and pieces. I also had a number of the salads in the box with a dollop of hummus and some spicy tomato sauce. The overall effect was good, although I couldn’t distinguish the flan from the rest of the salad. As a result, if I go again, I will probably pass on the flan, and go for the falafel. The wild rice with tomatoes and fruit (I think) was good, but it all merged into one big salady thingy in the box.

Would I go back – well, probably. I definitely won’t be going back tomorrow (b’cos they won’t be there…), but it may be a few weeks before I do.
