This cafe is at the back of the market next to Square Pie. The seating area is actually in the market but is covered and surrounded by plastic covers, just as by the Mediterranean in the winter! There is a turkish/ north african feel to the menu (a strong hint is the "Halal" reference on the cover), for instance, with a range of Mezza dishes.
I ordered the Chicken barbeque, with which I could have had chips, rice or couscous. I chose the couscous, to be in keeping with the ambiance. It came with a basic salad (lettuce and a bit of tomato) and a pitta bread. The chicken was very lightly spiced - not overbearing, but enough to taste, and the couscous was light and fluffy - not at all stodgy. All in, very enjoyable. One of my fellow diners had lamb mezza - which was juicy chunks of grilled lamb with rice, potatoes, spinach, peppers etc etc. I am told the flavours were very good - although there were probably a few too many flavours on one plate.
Canned soft drinks were used to wash the food down, as the café is unlicensed. The lemonade was good without the flavour of being mass produced; sadly the cranberry apparently did not have a lot of taste.
Definitely worth a return trip, even if the waitress tried to short change us by £10!
