The Gun, 16 Mar 2007

This was to be a trip to the King's Stores as recommended by Troy Converse, however due to an emergency that trip will have to be deferred. It was a day full of birthdays, and this was where Len Buckley was celebrating hers.

The Gun is one of a number of decent pubs around here and is opposite the southern flank of the market. Standard pub, pool table, sports on telly, good range of drinks etc. I'm not sure why, but I decided to go for the "Monster" burger with chips for £5. Memories of the Arkansas Café had me drooling. However, I think we need to get the Trades Descriptions Police in here - it had absolutely no taste of monster at all. In fact the only thing the small black object which was in the bun tasted of was of something cremated (unless that is what monster tastes like!). The chips were nice, and I was provided with a good sized pot of mayonnaise to go with them.

I am told that the steak and kidney puddings are very good - I could see a plate with about four of them on, just by the food counter, and they looked appetising. Perhaps if I return I may try that, but I will definitely not be trying any monster again.
